Class Syllabus
Class Syllabus
Teacher: Miss Comparato
Class: Geometry
Year: 2009-2010
*This is how it works with me: Listen to me at all times, be responsible, be respectful of everyone in the room, and follow instructions the first time.
*Please do not forget to follow school handbook guidelines and to do your best work.
*Please ask questions in order for me to help you. Remember that I am not a mind reader.
Consequences
Should you choose not to meet my expectations, here’s what happens:
• 1st offense: warning
• 2nd offense: 2:30 p.m. detention with me
• 3rd offense and so on: demerit
• Possible phone calls home after 2 infractions
• Any fighting, stealing, threatening, harassing, or insubordination will be an automatic referral to the office.
Classroom Procedures
1.) Enter the classroom in an orderly fashion, be seated in your assigned seat, and follow directions that will be located on the board. The directions will include gathering your materials and/or working on the warm-up Problem of the Day located on the board or overhead. These problems are to be kept in your binder in an organized fashion.
*If you are tardy, I will NOT accept work that has been turned in at the beginning of class. If you have an unexcused absence, I will not accept work that was due that day.
2.) I expect you to be on time, in your seat, materials out and already working when the bell rings. I will NOT be telling you or warning you to sit down and work. This is your warning, next offense is a demerit and we will go from there.
3.) Please raise your hand to ask a question or to be called upon. This eliminates interruptions and confusion.
4.) I expect you to write your name, date, and any page numbers in the upper right hand corner on ALL assignments including absent work. Failure to do so will result in a zero for that assignment.
5.) I expect you to use PENCIL on all assignments, tests, and quizzes. Failure to do so will result in a “0.” This is your only warning.
6.) I expect appropriate language and manners to be used in my room at all times.
7.) Please wait for my instruction to begin packing up to leave class. Please wait in your seats until the bell rings. I prefer you not to line up at the door.
Make-Up Tests/quizzes
Please plan on staying after school the day you return or the day after from missing a test or quiz. You will be making-up tests/quizzes in ___________ with Mrs. Snyder. Be prepared to have a ride home.
If you miss the day before a test/quiz and are in school the next day, be prepared to take the test with everyone else.
Extra Help
I am available for extra help during _______ periods. I am in room C-10 almost all the time unless I am running errands around the building. Please try to set-up an appointment with me and KEEP it so I know to be here. You can see me after school as well or go to NHS or Academic Assistance Center. See me as soon as you are confused so we can get you straightened out.
Cheating (don’t do it!)
Be sure to read the handbook on cheating. Working together on an assignment and turning in the exact same paper is cheating. Copying off of someone, in class or out is cheating. It is an automatic zero on an assignment; I will call your parents; write a referral and you may be suspended. Don’t do it because I will catch you.
Vegas Perks:
* MONEY: Students who: 1.) Show appropriate behavior in class; 2.) Volunteer to put homework problems on the board and explain them; 3.) Go out of his/her way to help a classmate; 4.) Have been helpful in class for other reasons to classmates and/or the teacher will receive Comparato dollars towards homework passes and bonus points on tests or quizzes.
10 C Dollars = 1 Homework Pass
20 C Dollars = 2% Bonus Points towards quarter grade
30 C Dollars = 5% Bonus Points towards quarter grade

There will be chances throughout the year for you to receive immunity. Just kidding!! If you complete the next 5 assignments, your membership will be given back into the club. This is called your weekly challenge. Your reward for being in this club is as follows: on every test you will receive 5 bonus points and on every quiz you will receive 2 bonus points. But, you need to be a member of the club in order to receive these rewards.
Requirements
** I do NOT accept late work! NO excuses or exceptions!!**
* Daily homework (5 points each): it is expected that all students complete homework every day.
* Participation and Cooperation (2-3 points daily): it is expected that all students will participate appropriately in class with answers and questions whether working in a group or on your own. These points add up to a 100 per quarter and acts like a test score. It comes in handy at the end of the quarter for your final grade.
* Binder Quizzes (10 points each): it is expected that all students maintain a 3-ring binder. This will include notes, journals/problems of the day, in-class work, homework assignments, and quizzes/tests. We will have frequent binder quizzes to help you determine your note-taking and organizational skills. The binder is required in order to help you improve your note taking and organizational skills.
* Tests (80-150 points each) and Quizzes (10-50 points each): we will have tests and quizzes whenever appropriate.
* Projects (100-200 points each): we will complete various projects throughout the year.
